Reverend Richard Coles, TV’s most beloved cleric, embarks on a marine odyssey across the British Isles and beyond in new show Sailing the Shipping Forecast.

He takes us on a journey to meet some of the people living on bustling waterways and remote, isolated communities that are reliant on the sea to survive and episode one stars Lundy Island.

Lundy is the largest island in the Bristol Channel and lies 10 nautical miles (19 km) off the coast of Devon.

Channel 4 commissioned the four-part series from Strawberry Blond TV which will take viewers on a voyage from bustling waterways to remote, isolated communities reliant on the sea to survive. On the way they’ll discover the natural beauty of estuaries, oceans, channels and coastlines.

“For years I’ve listened to the shipping forecast with only half an idea of where these exotic sounding places are. I’m very excited to be part of this journey around the country and feel privileged to meet just some of the maritime communities of our coasts” said Reverend Richard Coles.

Jayne Stanger, Senior Commissioning Editor, Channel 4 commented: “We can’t wait to see what Strawberry Blond will deliver for More4 and are especially excited that Reverend Coles is on board to present the series.”

Steve Wynne, CEO, Strawberry Blond TV added: “The shipping forecast is an integral fixture to the UK’s broadcasting schedule, and we wanted to explore the unique worlds of some of these sea areas for television.”

Executive Producers are Gill Brown and Steve Wynne, plus Series Producer Emma Fentiman of Strawberry Blond TV.
