Iconic North Devon train station features in new Channel 4 TV series

Si King, host of Britain's Favourite Railway Stations for More4

The film crew visited the Devon location last summer, filming the new series for More4, hosted by Si King.

Devon has a wide variety of iconic and legendary landmarks and locations, one being Woody Bay station and steam train, on the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway in North Devon.

A jewel of British railway architecture and one of the best-surviving examples of its kind, Woody Bay features on TV this week in Britain’s Favourite Railway Stations on More4.  TV chef, presenter and avid train enthusiast, Si King hosts the show and traverses the vast UK railway network and its most famous and loved stations.

Transport historian Siddy Holloway and architect Damion Burrows are along for the ride as Si learns why these utilitarian buildings are so special as each episode tells a story of British history, industry and community.

In his first series for Channel 4, Si will meet the people that keep these vital structures operating at their best. From the people who keep the trains and stations running, to those who work to serve their passengers.

Woody Bay station features in the first episode at 9pm Thursday 8th January 2026 on More4.  It will also be available on Channel 4 streaming.

Woody Bay station, North Devon

The Grade II listed Woody Bay Station is the operational hub of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (L&BR), a narrow-gauge heritage train line located high on Exmoor in North Devon.  First opened in 1898, the station was built in a distinctive ‘Nuremburg’ or Swiss-chalet style to help market the area of Lynton and Lynmouth as England’s ‘Little Switzerland’ due to their dramatic, steep, wooded valleys, towering cliffs, and rugged coastal scenery, reminiscent of the Alps.

The station currently operates steam train services using restored Victorian-style carriages and is part of a larger project to rebuild one of the world’s most famous and picturesque railways.

Clemency Green, Senior Commissioning Editor, Channel 4 said: “As the rail network turns 200 years old, this series will spotlight the best of our country’s engineering history in a different way. We’re honoured Si will be presenting his first series for More4, and Yeti will no doubt deliver a captivating series that viewers will love to escape into.”

Anna Davies, Executive Producer, Yeti Television added: “There’s something uniquely British about our love of railways – but usually it’s the trains, not the stations, that get the limelight. There are so many amazing stories to be uncovered in stations big and small, with unique characters who run them and incredible history, and Si is the perfect person to be taking us on that journey.”

Britain’s Favourite Railway Stations airs on More4 on January 8th 2026 on and will also be available on Channel 4 streaming.
